Nyanchama carries the day in ladies’ GOTY tourney

Elite junior golfer Kanana Muthomi, playing off handicap -1, edged out her peers in Division A Gross to claim the gross winner’s title

Top lady golfers from around the region battled for honours at the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Golfer of the Year (GOTY) tournament at Ruiru Golf Club, with Mercy Nyanchama emerging victorious.

Nyanchama carded a superb gross score of 74, outshining a competitive field in one of the most anticipated events on the KLGU calendar.

“Everything just came together. The course was in great condition, and I felt confident with every shot. Competing against such talented ladies and coming out on top is truly humbling. I am grateful to KLGU and Ruiru Golf Club for hosting such a well-organised event,” she said after the competition.

Meanwhile, elite junior golfer Kanana Muthomi, playing off handicap -1, edged out her peers in Division A Gross to claim the gross winner’s title on countback with 77 gross.

Benta Khanili, also on 77 gross, took the runner-up position, while Chanelle Wangari (H/C 0) finished third, also scoring 77. Joyce Njuguini (H/C -1) came in fourth with 78 gross.

“We are proud to have hosted this prestigious leg of the GOTY series. The talent on display was simply outstanding. Events like these are not just about competition but about growing the game and inspiring the next generation of female golfers,” said Lady Captain Rodah Mukami.

The Division A Nett category saw Beldina Monchari (H/C 20) claim the top spot after a countback, scoring 67 nett.

Lydia Mokaya (H/C 18) secured the runner-up spot with a matching 67 nett, while Rebecca Njui (H/C 19) placed third with 69 nett.

In Division B Gross, Virginia Munyao (H/C 21) delivered a consistent round to win with 91 gross, followed by Priscilla Karobia (92 gross, H/C 23) as runner-up.

Anne Ngumba (94 gross, H/C 22) and Adah Munyendo (95 gross, H/C 28) secured third and fourth places, respectively.

The Division B Nett category featured remarkable performances, with Elizabeth Nyambura (H/C 37) clinching the winner’s trophy after an excellent 62 nett. Peris Kamau (H/C 31) followed with 67 nett as runner-up, while Patriciah Ngahu (H/C 30) came third with 71 nett.

With the KLGU GOTY series now in full swing, attention turns to the upcoming legs where more golfers will be looking to climb the leaderboard and solidify their standings in what promises to be a closely contested season.
